As the countdown to Grand Theft Auto VI on November 19, 2026 enters its final stretch, three major updates have surfaced for PlayStation 5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X/S players: the massive SSD storage footprint required at install, an accidental PlayStation website leak regarding PS5 Pro Enhanced features, and the updated digital pre-load date and time.

GTA VI Install Size Confirmed: 212 GB on Your SSD

Updated store backend listings and official storage requirements confirm that GTA VI will require up to 212 GB of free storage space upon installation (ranging between 210 GB and 212 GB depending on the platform and day-one patch).

Here is what that footprint means for current-gen consoles:

  • Standard PS5 (approx. 667 GB usable SSD storage): installing Grand Theft Auto VI alone consumes nearly 31% of the console's entire drive.
  • Xbox Series S (512 GB model with approx. 364 GB usable space): the game takes up nearly 60% of the internal SSD.
  • PS5 Pro (2 TB SSD): the 212 GB install represents just around 11% of available storage.

Pro Tip Before Pre-Loading: On PS5, unpacking a 200+ GB file can trigger a false "Not Enough Free Space" error even after deleting older games. If this happens, boot your PS5 into Safe Mode and select Rebuild Database to clear reserved cache blocks.

PlayStation’s Copy-Paste Error While Detailing GTA VI PS5 Pro Enhancements

While the PlayStation Store already carries the official PS5 Pro Enhanced badge for GTA VI, PlayStation France accidentally published—and quickly deleted—a dedicated breakdown of the game's PS5 Pro upgrades.

Before it was pulled, the listing highlighted two major visual upgrades for PS5 Pro owners:

  • PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution): AI-driven upscaling to deliver significantly sharper 4K image quality across Vice City.
  • Advanced Ray Tracing: Enhanced real-time reflections on water and vehicle surfaces, sharper dynamic shadows, and upgraded global illumination.

However, eagle-eyed fans immediately spotted a hilarious copy-paste error inside the official text: partway through describing GTA VI, the PlayStation page claimed the hardware upgrades would let players experience "Atsu’s katana"—a direct leftover from a template written for Ghost of Yōtei. Sony swiftly removed the page after the placeholder slip went viral.

New GTA VI Pre-Load Date and Exact Unlock Times

To give millions of players enough time to download all 212 GB ahead of the November 19 launch, the official digital pre-load window has been moved up to Tuesday, November 10, 2026:

  • PS5 & PS5 Pro: Tuesday, November 10, 2026 at 12:00 AM (Midnight Local Time) in your region.
  • Xbox Series X/S: Tuesday, November 10, 2026 at 12:00 AM GMT worldwide (November 9 at 7:00 PM EST / 4:00 PM PST in North America, and November 10 at 01:00 CET in Europe).
  • Official Game Launch: Thursday, November 19, 2026 at 12:00 AM (Midnight Local Time).
